I’m solo Christian rap artist who not only raps but also sings; I do almost all genres but prefer rap, reggae, ragga, and rhythm & blues and worship. I’m a believer that gospel music should seek to worship, praise, adore and glorify God in Spirit and in Truth in all genres giving the message of hope and change transforming man from hopelessness to a hopeful being to victories unto eternity by God’s grace, mercy and love.
I grew up in Nairobi (Nairobbery) in the late 70’s 90’s. My family listened to a lot of music specifically Soul music, and later Rap mainly in the 80’s and were very talented break dancers (remarkable!!!), Lengala (African/Kenyan music), Rhythm & Blues, Reggae, Rock basically almost all kinds. I got the opportunity to enjoy the music and picked up from there and as I grew up the main styles that were very influential to me were soul music, rap and rhythm and blues with a little rock. Come the late 80’s and earlier 90’s Rap; Hip hop came through with the heat and the rest seemed history!
At that time the likes of NWA, Snoop dogg, Tupac, Mob deep, Nas a.k.a. Nassir Jones, Lords of the underground, Cypress Hill, Lost boyz, Bone Thugs & Harmony were on the hit lists and influential in what I wanted my
music to sound like. I liked their styles rap underground and slowly began picking up with some jazzy hip hop at the same time. By this time I had known Christ but backslid and due to many vices that I had (drugs and alcohol) I and my friends/krew never went far with recording this was in 1996 before Kalamashaka came through; and in a while they broke through and hit the airwaves opening the way for Kenyan Rap music.
I headed the wrong way but in June 1998 God saved me and brought me out of it all I re-dedicated my life back to Christ Jesus). I then came to find out there was Christian/Gospel rap music I was shocked skilled lyricist with the likes of T-bone, Gospel gangsters, Antonius, Prime Minister, Cross Movement, Corey Red, Todd Bhangs, Mr. Real, Aaron and, Dunamis etc and I was settled as it was sober uplifting blessed lyrics which was Gospel glorifying God.
I told a friend (John Kigada) that I liked rap music, he also did and rapped; I showed him some of my versus
I had written; he liked them surprisingly he was doing an album and he asked me if I could do a Cypher with him on the album I was happy to; and my first recording began there in a studio in Ng’ong road in 1999. The song played for a while on the radio the response was good; did a couple of road shows with him. Later decided to do my music; though the cost of recording was high it was expensive to get what one wanted i.e. tracks and not being able to get experienced/talented hip hop producers wit reasonable rates and mastering etc. I wasn’t able to release any music but wrote a lot.
I have done a few recordings in home studios on self production and at the moment am working to finish my album and a mix tape though it needs a lot of work I can say its upcoming and a must to listen. I would like to release a single then the album. I keep it real in my lyrics I tell it as it is God’s salvation and deliverance, praise and worship to Him God most High in Jesus name; I give what’s in my heart and bring it out through rap music or even poetry; mainly to educate, worship, praise, and talk about my past experiences that will help and give direction to all, give a revelation as God speaks to me (That’s The Core!), and about Social evils in my country Kenya the likes of Corruption and Tribalism unlike racism the United States of America yeah I speak it out to educate, kick relevant intelligent rhymez on track .
I’d like to be able to practically put in action all the ideas that I have in mind it’s like a “Prison Break (tha series that never ends)” that the ideas never stop flowing, working, by God’s grace; I hope to work with producers and other artists and explore to full capacity of my potential and telling others about the Salvation of Jesus Christ to mankind…
Thank you and thank you for the opportunity God bless and One Love!
